We had a dream to be the best bakery in Western Australia
Bindoon Bakery was purchased by New Zealand born Anne Maree Hagge and Leanne Phillipson in October, 2000.
Anne Maree, a long-time foodie with a Certificate III in Cake and Pastry, was also the New Zealand National Runner-up Apprentice of the Year. Her long list of clients includes former U.S President Bill Clinton and both Australian and New Zealand former Prime Ministers John Howard and Helen Clarke.
On the other hand, Leanne has a background in sales and marketing. Previously an account manager for a major food wholesale company in Auckland. Her patrons included a list of cafés, restaurants, large wholesale bakeries and food wholesalers. As a result of this extensive experience, Leanne understands and truly believes the importance of a high standard of customer service and quality products.
Both Anne Maree and Leanne shared a vision to run a food business which served high grade products that were rustic and full of flavour, in a friendly environment resembling that of old country-style hospitality. Originally named the “Bindoon Bakery”, the bakery-café had a small staff of five and catered primarily for the local community. It was not long before it’s name became famous among those travelling the Great Northern Highway and it soon became a popular stop for the passing traffic. Within a few years, the Bakery had outgrown the size of its premises but continued as it were until 2010, when an opportunity arose for it to escape from this constraint.
Taking this on board, the bakery made a small yet game-changing move to the block next-door, where a much larger, purpose-built bakery was built. With the relocation came a rebranding of the name, and the Bindoon Bakery became the “Bindoon Bakehaus & Café”.
This new building features areas like:
• Indoor Dining (traditional table and chair seating)
• Lounge Corner (a comfortable layout for those seeking a more casual dining)
• Breakfast Bar (suitable for those on-the-go)
• Alfresco Area (outdoor table and chair seating)
• The Kiddies’ Bakehaus (a play kitchen aimed at children ages 2 – 8 years)
• Indoor toilets catering for men, women and disabled patrons
Since the move, the Bakery has grown to have around 40 full-time, part-time and casual employees. The business is also a frequent stop for a mix of locals, passing traffic, tourists and social events. In May 2015, they added royals to this list with Prince Harry dropping in for a Bannofee Eclair with his service brigade!
In this new, larger establishment, the Bakery is constantly looking to expand its product range to feature more specialty items and support its community activities.
The Bakehaus is a Quality Tourism Accredited and Sustainable Tourism Accredited business.
